About FPD

The Foundation for Professional Development believes in three things: Developing People, Innovation and Strengthening Systems. The 23-year-old private higher education institution is one of the few existing education institutions that fully engages in the three scholarships of higher education, namely: teaching and learning, research and community engagement. 

Since its establishment, the institution has enrolled more than 500, 000 students and facilitated HIV education and testing. Over and above this, FDP still wanted to empower the youth with management skills and financial literacy to ensure that they are able to replicate the good work that they already do.

The Situation

At the time of the campaign, our goal was to give away 12 weeks worth of bursaries to qualified applicants through our #FundaFriday bursary campaign and this aligned with The Foundation of Professional Development (FDP) business objectives of making the world a better place through financial literacy. 

The objectives and values of FDP aligned with The Knowledge Trust because we are both invested in developing the youth and giving away free education.

Special Ingredient

Young people interested in mining and craftsman artisan industries may not be aware of the pressure the work environment put on your physical body. As a result, ATI needed candidates who did not have health issues or any significant health compromises when it comes to working in the ground or with heavy machinery. To test this, Artisan Training Institute’s 2-hour online assessment was the ideal curated screening tool as a challenge for applicants. Members were therefore offered a gamified test experience

Gamified experiences highlight candidates who are goal-oriented, who are driven by a high sense of power and who are motivated by membership and belonging. These are all values that signalled high-quality candidates to the Foundation of Professional Development that could qualify for other career micro-courses. 

This profile also increases the likelihood that these candidates will succeed in the programmes and make them potential students for other stackable micro-courses as well as leads for ABSA’s learnerships and internships.

The Action

The trusted Knowledge Trust community had grown to almost 90 000 members who were fully engaged with our platform and excited by the possible bursary giveaways in the bursary lottery.

  2. Send targeted emails to members that have applied for similar opportunities.

The Results

The campaign for the 1-year NQF5 accredited Higher Certificate in Management that was sponsored by ABSA along with a Lenovo Tablet valued at  R18,499 resulted in 2,198 applications, 100 shortlisted candidates and 2 lives were changed! 

To sweeten the deal, a third-party organisation offered members a scholarship to the value of R100,000 to study a course of their choice. The Foundation of Professional Development offered a 10” Lenovo Tablet while The Knowledge Trust offered the member R750 worth of data.
